I ran into my first btrfs error tonight, I was watching a show when the ubuntu new distro box popped up and I selected yes to upgrade to 11.10, only to soon find myself at the terminal with a crash report being displayed.
At first I thought everything was fine, as I could hear CSI still playing managed to get back to the desktop but found that some programs weren’t working.
I decided to just reboot, but the system didn’t come back up. Thankfully I had a livecd iso that I could boot into from grub2, after much googling I found that I needed to compile btrfs-zero-log from btrfs-progs-unstable and run it against the bad root filesystem.
From there I could boot, but now I’m seeing a lot of checksum errors in kernel.log and KDE doesn’t want to start. Thankfully I had several other desktop env.s I could try and managed to get one loaded that gave me a terminal.
Trying the distro update again, hopping that whatever files that got messed up will get fixed. Other wise I might have to re-format/re-install… And I’d rather like to avoid that.
