My computer died last night, started off with a hard crash that forced a power reset. Booting back up I had a file system error and started to work out what was wrong and how to fix it, only to get kernel panics that looked to have more to do with the CPU.

It was while dealing with this that I came back to the computer to see a ‘insert system boot disk and press any key’ and this I started having problems booting, and the computer would crash at GRUB (boot manager). Then nothing, i pulled out a diagnostic tool I had that reports BIOS error codes, it stopped at FF the first code that bios gives out.

So it looks like either my motherboard or CPU gave up the ghost, if not both. And I don’t have any spare parts anymore to swap out to see which it might be.

Thankfully when talking about this someone offered to help me get the parts I need to revive my computer, but it might be next week before I have a working desktop. Till then at least I have this table to get online and do stuff.
