Did run into a few problems, I got a Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P motherboard and when booted to Ubuntu I quickly found that the usb devices and networking did not work. Some googling and I ended up enabled IOMMU in bios along with a xHCI and eHCI handoff options, and adding IOMMU=soft to the boot options.

That seems to get everything working, except for some reason networking, dmesg showed this: systemd-udevd[514]: renamed network interface eth0 to eth1 I remember this happening before and there is some file I need to update to prevent this renaming. But for the moment I switched eth0 to eth1 in the networking config.

Now to recover from swapping parts around and catch up with everything I put off dealing with on the tablet.

I’ve been getting spontaneous reboots, no really pattern that I could see, happen on linux kernel 4.0 (self rolled) and 3.16 ( ubuntu), reverted bios IOMMU and the eHCI settings back to default to see if that helps.

If it doesn’t, I’m not sure what next to try to get this system stable.

Nope, went back and looked more in the CPU section of the bios, and turned off Core Performance Boost and C1E. I vaguely remember having to turn that off on other systems also.

I will have to wait and see if that will be the fix needed, certainly praying it is.

I’m closing in on 3 hours uptime, I think disabling C1E was what was need. If nothing else pops up, this will be my last update on this post.

It’s now 2:39am, had another reboot, tried a few more bios options. Got back online and was looking at a different motherboard when I got a hard lock. That was the last chance I was going to give to the motherboard. I will remove it and return it for a refund, and get a different mb.

More updates on that in a future post.
